Research Priorities of the Center for Research on Arthropod-Borne Diseases
The Center for Research on Arthropod-Borne Diseases defines its research priorities to support the national health system and reduce the burden of vector-borne diseases through scientific evidence and applied research. The main diseases of research focus in Iran include the following
Malaria■
Surveillance of vectors, evaluation of insecticide resistance, and assessment of elimination strategies
Leishmaniasis (Cutaneous and Visceral)■
Studies on vectors, animal reservoirs, environmental factors, and preventive approaches
Crimean–Congo Hemorrhagic Fever (CCHF)■
Monitoring tick populations, high-risk areas, and transmission patterns
Mosquito-Borne Viral Diseases (Dengue, Chikungunya, Zika)■
Risk assessment, surveillance of invasive Aedes mosquitoes, and outbreak preparedness
Other Arboviral Infections (e.g., West Nile virus, Sindbis virus, Sandfly fever viruses)■
Molecular surveillance, sero-epidemiological studies, and vector investigations
Tick-Borne Relapsing Fever■
Research on Borrelia species, tick ecology, and endemic foci
Plague and Rodent-Associated Diseases■
Monitoring natural reservoirs and flea vectors
Tularemia■
Epidemiological studies, pathogen detection, and risk assessment
Dirofilariasis■
Surveillance of mosquito vectors and animal reservoirs
Rickettsial Diseases and Louse- or Flea-Borne Infections■
Molecular diagnosis, ecological investigations, and public health impact assessment
The Center also prioritizes research on vector resistance to insecticides, climate change impacts on disease transmission, and innovative vector-control methods including biological and smart surveillance technologies
